TV has evolved from simple TV to wired smart TV, with advanced technology bringing us a variety of broadcast programs and video information.

While the earliest origins of television technology can be traced back to the late 1800s, the first all-electronic television appeared around 1936. Television entered the mass consumer market in the early 1950s and created a whole new realm of home entertainment.

The aspect ratio also changed from 4:3 to 16:9, supporting a wider range of movie formats. HDTV's greatly improved image quality, longer lifespan, and ability to build larger screens quickly replaced earlier projection and plasma displays. 2005 saw the development of 4K video, which further increased the resolution of video, especially when flat panel displays reached 60+ inches in size. The new 8K UHD TVs offer superior images at very large screen sizes.

The integration of Internet technologies led to the rise of smart TVs. This generation of TVs uses the Internet to extend the entertainment capabilities of the TV, making it a convenient, interactive information and gaming device.

The connectivity I/O panel on the back of modern digital TVs includes multiple interconnects such as RCA audio jacks, RJ45 Ethernet, D-Sub PC connectors, USB ports, a 21-pin SCART connector, and several HDMI connectors. the USB port can be used to connect an external flash drive. The HDTV may also include optical audio output connectors for connection to the sound bar. Smart TVs can be connected to the Internet via an RJ45 Ethernet cable or wireless LAN.

The introduction of external streaming devices such as Roku and Amazon Fire TV sticks that plug into USB ports allows users to effectively stream video content from the many subscription sources that continue to emerge, with or without cable. Instant access to huge movie libraries has disrupted the business model of Blockbuster and other DVD rental stores. Streaming video has been recognized as one of the fastest growing sources of Internet bandwidth demand.

Consumers can now watch their favorite shows and play games on their HDTVs, PCs, laptops, tablets or smart computers anytime, anywhere. The broadcast, cable and Internet infrastructure that supports these capabilities must be expanded. This provides a great market for the connector industry. This continued development of information and entertainment delivery, possibly using artificial or augmented reality, or even holographic imaging, faster, smaller, and lower cost connectors will be developed.
